Allan Lyburn's Brandon team vaulted into third place in the MCT standings by winning the WHITES' DRUG STORE CLASSIC today in Swan River, topping Kelly Skinner of Hamiota 8-4 in today's final.
With support from Scott Ramsay, Mark Taylor, and Cory Barkley, Lyburn opened an early 4-1 lead in the final, and coasted to a victory worth $9,000 to the Brandon foursome. Playing out of Hamiota, Skinner's crew of Allan Lawn, Darcy Hayward, and Trevor Taylor, failed to add a second MCT triumph to its earlier win this season in the King Spud Classic in Carberry. Runner-up money in Swan River was $7,000.
Skinner defeated Randy Bryden of Regina 3-2, while Lyburn was a 6-2 winner over Murray Woodward of Ste. Anne in the semi-finals. Bryden and Woodward took home $5,000 apiece, while losing quarter-finalists Brent Scales of Swan River, last year's winner Joel Jordison of Moose Jaw, Craig Disher of Rolla, North Dakota, and Saskatoon's Shawn Joyce each received $3,500 (18 teams - 8 qualifiers).
