Hello, Welcome Back, and Thank You

Hi everyone. Just wanted to greet all to our new Virden Curling Club Blog site, and welcome your comments, questions, and ideas.

We wanted to personally thank our rink staff, new and old, who have been very busy preparing for the upcoming season. Our ice staff (old), George Barkley, Ethel Karwandy, and Kevin Barkley, have been very busy with putting the surface together that we've all come to expect. We must also thank Barry Hayward and Bill Barkley who yearly have helped with the whitening of the ice and did so again this year. Thanks guys.

We are very fortunate to have hired some familiar faces to our off ice staff this season. Doug and Debbie McLellan will be in charge of the canteen and day to day management of the VCC, while Darla Hayward and Karla Gardiner will manage the bar operation. They have all been busy "learning the ropes", and we feel very confident that they will all do a wonderful job.

Special thanks to Doug for taking his own time to put this blog together and give you an inside look at the day to day work. Doug also requires thanks for his work on the ice with George and his staff as he gets broke in as an "icemaker", pretty good from what I've seen!

Also congrats to Virden's Darcy Hayward for winning the King Spud Mens Cash Bonspiel in Carberry on the weekend with the Kelly Skinner rink of Hamiota. They defeated Ian Beavis of Morden in the final and took home $3100. Virden's Graham Freeman and rink of Kevin Cooley, Kevin Barkley, and Dwayne Barkley also did well with a semi-finalist finish and pocketing $1250. Well done everyone!

On behalf of the VCC executive, we hope you enjoy the 2008/09 season and look forward to seeing you on and off the ice!

There is openings on our VCC executive for this season, anyone interested please let me know. Thank you, VCC President 2008/2009 Cory Barkley

Looking at the website it looks great! One question, can all Virden teams leave a journal of their schedules and spiels or is this reserved for el presidante.

You can thank El Manigero Doug for that. It was nice he put our 0-3 in the Hat for the world to see, haha, thanks Doug. Good job in Carberry and really nice that you were able to pick a hole in something this quickly, always able to find the faults in everything, charming personality trait. Of course, anyone can use it for their own curling exploits, although I imagine yours are used up for this season. See you Wednesday.

I tried to find out info on the teams that were at the King Spud Classic, but couldnt get a site that was giving updates. We would like to follow anyone from Virden that is competing in bonspiels like the ones so far this year. This site will be driven by our members and the more input the more interesting. Hopefully we can do better in the future.
