WELCOME BACK

Hi all, and welcome back for another season of curling at the Virden Curling Club!

The ice is nearly ready, and curling will begin Tuesday, October 27. We are thrilled to have our staff back in the fold from last season.

Doug and Deb McLellan will return as rink/canteen managers after a very successful first season. Enjoy Deb's always changing specials in the canteen, and Doug will be glad to handle any questions you may have.

Darla Hayward and Karla Robertson (Gardiner) are also back as bar managers, and look forward to serving you a cold one after the game to ease the pain a little. Congratulations to Karla and Mark Robertson on their marriage this summer!

George Barkley and staff of Ethel Karwandy and Kevin Barkley also return, and have the ice almost ready to slide on. This will be George's 16th season as icemaker, and it looks like it's getting easier for him every year!

THANKS TO ALL THE STAFF FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN GETTING US OFF AND RUNNING FOR ANOTHER SEASON! Your dedication to the club should not go unnoticed. THANK YOU!

There are some ongoing changes to the club, as some late summer renovations to the lounge have carried over into the season. We hope you enjoy the changes supplied to us by Jason Hayward of Woody's Homeworks, thanks Jason, everything is going to look great!

The club has also made some new purchases this fall we hope you enjoy. A new corner electric fireplace, a standup freezer, and a small bar fridge were purchased for the lounge, along with 2 42' Plasma TV's, 1 of which will be getting raffled off. A new 32' TV was also purchased for the main floor. Thanks to Kullberg's and Kinnaird Electronics for your continued support of our club!

The VCC board consists of President - Cory Barkley, Treasurer - John Corbey, and board members, Jim Lyons, Wayne Williams, Jan Marie Jorgensen, Darwin Walker, Karen Forster, and Danny Pierrard. New members are always sought after, please contact any of the above for info.

All members also received vote letters in the summer in regards to joining the new recreation complex, with an overwhelming 158-0 vote out of 220 coming back in approving the club joining the project. We thank those who voted and look forward to hearing more on our involvement in the project. We'll keep you all updated as information comes to us!

All the best in the coming season, and good curling!

Thank you
VCC President 2009/2010
Cory Barkley
