MCA Announces Club Profits from the
2008 Tim Hortons Brier Quote Your Code Program
The Quote your Code program, a profit sharing program between the 2008 Tim Hortons Brier and the Manitoba Curling Association saw 87 of Manitoba’s 130 curling clubs have their code quoted when fans were purchasing Brier tickets. A percentage of profits from the Brier have been designated to each participating club.
The 2008 Tim Hortons Brier Quote your Code program raised a grand total of $336,042.56 in ticket sales. A total of $78,575.46 is being donated to the 87 Manitoba Curling Clubs who participated in the program. The Granite Curling Club was the top earner with $27,324.32 in ticket sales raised for a profit of $6,389.13. The Carberry Curling Club was the top rural earner with $20,776.00 in ticket sales raised for a profit of $4,599.76.
Total event profit was $449,002.62; this number means that the host will receive 35% of the amount or $157,150.92. One half or $78,575.46 is divided up to the participating clubs of the Quote Your Code Program. The other half goes to the Manitoba Curling Association under the mandate to promote the game of curling in the province of Manitoba; to unite all curling clubs within Manitoba into one organization; to organize recreational and competitive curling competitions; to establish and govern the rules and regulations for competitions within the province; to encourage fraternal relationships with other curling associations; and to maintain affiliations with the National Curling Association.
The MCA also receives $29,185.17, which is a 10% share of the CCA’s profits. The Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame raised $78,199.94 from Brier 50/50 ticket sales. In total over $260,000.00 will be put towards the development of curling in Manitoba. In addition the Schmirler Foundation provided $32,000 to the Children’s Hospital Foundation. The economic impact was in excess of $20 million to Winnipeg and the Province of Manitoba.
The Quote Your Code Program will again be used in 2009 in partnership with the BDO Canadian Open Classic being held in Winnipeg this January. 10% of ticket sales will go to participating clubs through the Quote Your Code Program.
