BONSPIEL WINNERS

Twelve senior mixed curling teams enjoyed 2 days of curling fun on Thurs. Jan 21st and Friday Jan 22nd. There were teams from Miniota, Hamiota and Elkhorn and we appreciated their support in making this bonspiel possible.

After 2 days of spirited competition Keith Wadham's team of Marg Hayhurst, Betty McSorley, and John Carefoot emerged as the champions with 78 points. Second place went to Florence Penner's team of Larry Gabrielle, Ken Angus and Evelyn Whyte with 70 points, while Third place went to Jim Lyons' team of Karen McKinnon, Larry Maguire and Shirley Carefoot with 66 points.

At the end of two days the curlers and guests enjoyed a great meal prepared and served by Doug and Debbie McLellan. As usual the ice was in great shape thanks to Geordie Barkley and his staff of Ethel Karwandy and Kevin Barkley.

Winners of the Meat raffles were Sylvia Flecknor and Darlene Smith.

ZONE PLAYDOWNS

VIRDEN - Dec 7th to 9th, 2009

Eight teams competed in the Zone playdowns for the right to go to the provincial Golden Gals Competition to be held in Killarney in early February.

Teams from Virden, Shoal Lake, Hamiota, Binscarth and Miniota participated with 2 teams to advance to the provincials.

The Kay Brethour foursome from Hamiota defeated Carol Wilson of Virden on Tuesday afternoon to win the first spot in the 16 team provincials.
Carol then dropped to the 2nd qualifiers final, where she defeated the Thelma Parr team from Binscarth.

Next year the Golden Gals Provincials will be held in Virden.
